Crime Wave?

My lawn mower was stolen from my back yard sometime between Saturday morning and Tuesday evening.
I have kept my lawn mower in my back yard, behind my house for the past four years and it's not been a problem. In fact, in years past I've not had any problems with break ins or theft. However, in the past couple of months my car has been broken into and my lawn mower stolen.
It's disappointing to me. If someone needed to borrow something of mine, I wouldn't hesitate to lend them what they needed. I feel violated to have my belongings taken and rifled through.
I don't know how to prevent these things but just wanted to make my neighbors aware of the potential rise in this type of activity in the Wedge.
