House and Building Histories

I'm posting two building histories which I wrote just for fun. One is of the building that now houses Boulder Coffee. The other is of my former house. In that one I try to go into the more general social and economic history of the neighborhood, as best as I could reconstruct it from the documentation and secondary sources. Hopefully you'll enjoy and I'd love to hear if anyone else has found out things about their homes or buildings they like.

Have you ever thought of becoming the City Historian? If not, why not. I love your work!

Do they need one? I've noticed that Christine Ridarsky (whom I've met when I worked for the Asian Pacific Islander History Project [APA-HiP] and at SUNY Brockport) has become the City Historian after Ruth Rosenberg-Naparsteck retired. I think she'll be there for a while.

I wouldn't mind contributing what I've found to an update a South Wedge history, something like what Josh Canfield did in his 1984 "An Introduction to the South Wedge and Its History." I think people's recollections could be gathered and, if placed along with the context of the social, economic and political changes that were affecting Rochester, a really good neighborhood history could be written. I liked the stories about your family that you mentioned here. I was hoping more people—both long-term residents and new arrivals with a bug for history—would post things here, but it's been quiet for a while.
